For much of the last decade, change management has been the buzzword in achieving organisational transformations effectively. The goal of businesses to deliver quick results and cater to varying challenges remains the same. Yet, due to the complexity of the current business environment, there is a need to reevaluate how change is effectively implemented. Newton S.p.A brings in a different narrative for change management. “We prefer to talk about management change instead of change management,” says Andrea Notarnicola, External Communications Manager at Newton S.p.A. The company redefines the way managers have been approaching change management techniques so far.

Having over 20 years of experience as change directors in organisational development, Milan-based Newton S.p.A focuses on a holistic approach to bring change in the cultural process of an organisation through management consultancy, training and engagement events. Newton S.p.A has built an innovation lab that deeply renews the management discipline within organisations and makes practices consistent with the complexities of the business world. Notarnicola draws attention to how most of their clients are facing issues with speedy adaption to a cultural change. He suggests the best way to do so is to consider some of the meta-competencies in the market, such as learning, adapting, and creating change. To implement this, Newton S.p.A aims at devising ways of transforming managerial practices and creating collective intelligence with a set of tools, techniques, actions, and approaches that are more consistent with the corporate purpose. Newton’s multi-disciplinary laboratory comprises a team that has created innovative immersive tools based on the understanding of different business problems. The idea of immersive learning is to build real-life stories of business challenges or hyper videos using simulation or artificial environments that act as a learning process for participants.

This equips participants to work inside a complex environment innovatively.

We prefer to talk about management change instead of change management

To better understand how Newton’s immersive learning works, Notarnicola explains about their flagship platform—Innovation Path comprising tools that provide an engaging learning experience for managers. The ON application helps teams to coach themselves through sessions that replicate the same activities they face while handling business complexities. With ON application installed on their smartphones, groups and participants can lead or compete among themselves in these immersive experiences. Such experiences act as an organisational development tool to guide the participants in building a new inclusive leadership model for the company. Newton S.p.A puts a particular emphasis on sustainable innovation that helps companies to build new skills and integrate them into designing new ecosystems and contexts. The App is being used by managers during the Covid-19 crisis to work on business continuity and remote leadership skills.

Perhaps, what speaks for itself about Newton’s credibility is the numerous customer success stories, one of which is illy coffee—one of the most important coffee brands in Europe and Newton’s initial clients. Illy coffee approached Newton S.p.A out of the need to bring change in the leadership, to modify the way things were running for the brand in the market. Newton S.p.A came on board with their Innovation Path, which engaged all the illy managers in a learning experience. So much so that within a year, illy saw an improved competitive presence in the international markets and launched a new product.

For the days ahead, Newton is establishing its global presence by helping clients from the U.S, the U.K, and South America to become more sustainable and innovative in their organisational culture. The immersive learning product “The Cage” is distributed worldwide by SDA Bocconi business school. Newton’s journey of learning and innovating looks bright as they plan to partner with companies and enhance their capabilities. “We are proud as to how Newton S.p.A is growing larger by day with endless opportunities of engaging people from various countries,” concludes Notarnicola.
